BRYAN SWIM TEAM ASSOCIATION

The Bryan Swim Team Association is a member of the Greater Northwest Ohio Aquatic Conference, GNOAC. This league is composed of swimming and/or diving teams from: Defiance/Ayersville, Bowling Green, Bryan, Findlay, Napoleon, Wauseon, and Toledo (diving).  All GNOAC teams participate in a number of dual meets throughout June and July. At the end of the season, a championship meet is held in which all conference teams participate.  The competitive swimming and diving program is for ages up to and including 18 years old or 19 if it is the summer of the child’s senior year. The age of your swimmer or diver on May 31st determines his/her age group for the entire summer.  The Cubs Program is the preliminary pre-competitive program of the Bryan Swim Team. The goal of the program is to teach young children the four competitive strokes that are needed to advance to a competitive team.  The Synchronized Swimming program is open to swimmers with average or above swimming skills, and is to teach the sport of Synchronized Swimming.

The competitive swimming program has levels of practice, which are offered with the instruction available in the four competitive strokes.

Emphasis is placed on competition; however, swimmers are encouraged to be concerned with their own accomplishments and are urged to improve their technique and times.

Temperature and Practice:

Occasionally morning swim practices may be canceled due to inclement weather.

Parents and/or swimmers should call (419-636-6921 > National City Bank Time and Temperature) twenty minutes before their scheduled practice.

The following rules apply:

49 degrees or less air temperature                 Practice is canceled

          50-54 degrees                                              Practice is optional

55 degrees or over                                       Practice is on

Light rain will not cause cancellation of practice; however, if there are thunderstorms, practice is canceled. If thunder is heard during practice, the swimmers must exit the water and not re-enter until authorized by the coach. If practice is canceled early, swimmers should have money to use the pay phone to notify their parents

The Park and Recreation Phone is for EMERGENCIES ONLY!

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE:

The purpose of the BSTA disciplinary procedure is to promote and maintain a safe structure and good sportsmanship during all BSTA program practices and meets. Should a child choose not to follow the rules listed below, the following three-step procedure will be implemented.

The first step will be the coach asking the child to change their behavior. If the child’s behavior does not improve, the child will be removed from the pool, instructed to sit on the sidelines and a written note will be sent home notifying the parent/guardian of the problem behavior. The second step will be implemented if the child’s problem behavior continues, resulting in a conference between the parent, coach and a member of the board. The final step will result in the child being expelled from the team for the remainder of the season, if step one and two are unsuccessful.

RULES:

1.      No child shall threaten to harm or have a physical confrontation with another swim/dive/synch./cub team member or coach. This includes, but is not limited to choking, striking, tripping, or pushing.

2.      All participants shall conduct themselves in a proper manner as not to disrupt practice.

3.      All participants shall follow the coaches’ instruction at all times.

4.      No participant will enter the pool until the start of practice.

5.      Alcohol, smoking or drug use is strictly prohibited.
